eBay Finds: Another Cool Vintage LED, a Gorgeous Grand Seiko, and an Art Deco Bulova
eBay Finds is back! This bi-monthly installment will feature a selection of watches currently listed on eBay that have caught the eye of editor Christoph McNeil (@vintagediver). If you come across any hidden gems on the ‘Bay drop us a note at info@wornandwound.com for potential inclusion.
Shreve & Co LED
Another week, another cool vintage LED! I honestly don’t know why there are so many of these coming out of the woodwork, but I’m glad they are. This one is a vintage Shreve & Co. with a nice space-age chunky look. The 36.5mm steel case is in great shape with sharp edges and unpolished. The bracelet is original and complements the watch perfectly. The display works and the watch runs as it should. Nice 1970’s goodness from a seldom seen brand.
Vintage Grand Seiko 6146-8000
We have a real winner here, a vintage Grand Seiko 6146-8000 dress watch. This 61GS epitomizes Grand Seiko’s Grammar of Design aesthetic. The broad planes, sharp edges and mix of brushed and polished finishes is simply sublime. The silver dial is clean and has the classic simple stick markers and a day/date window at 3 o’clock. The dauphine hands have gorgeous bevels, a testament to the precise craftsmanship of the Grand Seiko line. The 6146 movement is hi-beat, pulsing at 36000 beats per hour. The deeply grooved crown is original and signed with the GS logo as it should. The gold GS caseback medallion is in really nice condition as well. Really a beautiful piece here.
Vintage Citizen Jet Auto Dater
Here’s another great vintage Japanese watch, a Citizen Jet Auto Dater. A beautiful steel case with nicely beveled lugs is in great shape. The silver dial is crisp and clean, with really nice applied faceted steel markers and a date window at 3 o’clock. The acrylic crystal has a date magnifier built in. The Citizen automatic movement is clean and runs well per the seller. The auto winding mechanism is unique in its design with inner teeth in the weight – check out the movement picture! The oversize crown looks original to me. Really nice Citizen that you don’t see too often for sale.
Vintage Elgin Skin Diver
Next up is a really nice looking vintage Elgin diver. Most people don’t think of Elgin when considering divers, but they did actually make several different dive models over the years, you just don’t see them often. This one has the classic skin diver style case that is crisp and unpolished, with a large bezel that has a nice orange/red and black acrylic insert in solid shape. The black dial has cool lumed numerals and markers and an arrow tipped minute hand. There is an interesting day/date window at 3 o’clock that has a little separation between the day and date. No movement pictures but the watch runs per the seller.
Vintage Hamilton Dateline
This vintage Hamilton has a cool, funky look that is really different. The squarish steel case is unpolished with the original brushed finish. The dial is dark blue with a white horizontal stripe through the middle. The big, applied markers have white (lume?) painted on them and the broad baton style hands are painted to match. The bracelet isn’t original, but looks good on the watch. The crown is original and signed with the Hamilton “H” logo. The automatic movement is clean and runs well per the seller. Neat looking piece that stands out.
Vintage Art Deco Bulova
Last up is a really sweet vintage Bulova from the 1940s. The 10k yellow gold plate case has a really sleek, streamline design. The lugs are tubular and feed into the stretch band seamlessly. The winding crown is recessed into the side of the case, adding to the streamline look. The Butler silver dial looks original to me and is really clean. It has applied gold Art Deco numerals, a sub-seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and matching gold hands. No movement picture but runs well per the seller. These 1940s Art Deco watches are small in size, but have huge style.
