eBay Finds: Cool Vintage Pieces from Omega, Gruen, Zodiac, and More!
eBay Finds is back! This bi-monthly installment will feature a selection of watches currently listed on eBay that have caught the eye of editor Christoph McNeil (@vintagediver). If you come across any hidden gems on the ‘Bay drop us a note at info@wornandwound.com for potential inclusion.
Vintage Waltham Diver
Here’s a really sweet, robust vintage Waltham diver. The nice 35mm steel case looks unpolished with sharp chamfers on the lugs. The aluminum elapsed time diver’s bezel is in great shape, with only a tad of wear. The gloss black dial has a cool vertical textured stripe going between 9 o’clock and the date window at 3 o’clock. Large applied steel markers and broad steel hands give it a solid look. The manual wind movement is clean and runs well per the seller. The watch comes on a vintage Tropic rubber strap which is always a great touch.
Vintage Omega Seamaster DeVille
Next up is a sleek and stylish vintage Omega Seamaster DeVille. This is a mid-1960’s Seamaster, with simple thin lugs and a thin bezel on the round stainless steel case. The case is unpolished with sharp edges. The Seamaster Hippocampus logo on the back is crisp, and there is a nicely engraved personalization that I just love. Classic Omega silver dial with stick markers and stick hands and a date window at 3 o’clock. The crown is original and correct, and is signed with the Omega logo as it should be. This is a front-loading case, and there are no movement pictures, although the seller states the watch runs well.
Vintage Gruen Precision
You can never go wrong with a nice vintage chronograph, and this vintage Gruen is no exception. The 36mm stainless steel case is excellent and unpolished with sharp edges on the thin lugs. The white dial is clean and looks original, with gold markers and lume filled gold hour/minute hands. The dual chronograph registers are at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock, giving it a pleasant symmetry. The watch is powered by the robust workhorse Valjoux 7733 manual wind movement, which looks clean and runs well per the seller. Great looking vintage chronograph with a quality movement that shouldn’t crush your wallet.
Vintage Zodiac
This vintage Zodiac day/date watch oozes 1970s style. The silver dial has little square applied steel markers and steel baton hands. There’s a black and white day/date window at 3 o’clock, with the Zodiac logo at 9 o’clock. Simple yet stylish if you ask me. The 35mm steel case is sharp and unpolished. The original crown is signed with the Zodiac logo. The Zodiac signed ETA automatic movement is clean and has been serviced per the seller. The watch comes on a generic steel bracelet that is serviceable, but I’d swap it out for something else. A great looking every day watch.
Vintage Benrus
Here’s a simple, sporty/dress Benrus with great looks. The 34mm steel case is unpolished with sharp edges on the big, bold lugs. The silver dial is clean, with stylized Deco numbers at 12, 3, 6 and 9 and arrows for the rest. Thin stick hands with lume complete the look. There are no pictures of the 21 jewel movement, but the seller states the watch runs well currently. This watch may not turn heads, but it has good looks and should be reasonably priced.
Vintage Gallet MultiChron
Finishing off this week with another killer vintage chronograph, this time a Gallet MultiChron three register chronograph. The 38mm stainless steel case looks unpolished, with nice edges on the chamfered lugs. The matte black dial is clean, with contrasting white subdials. The acrylic crystal has lots of scratches, but a good polish will show that awesome dial better. The aluminum 12 hour bezel shows minimal wear. The Valjoux 72 manual wind movement is clean and runs well per the seller. This is the same movement used in the famous vintage Rolex Daytona. Here’s your chance to get a chronograph with the same movement for a fraction of the price. As a bonus, this gem comes with the original box. It also comes on a steel bracelet that isn’t original, but looks good with it.
