Oris Unveils the New York Harbor Limited Edition II and Continues their Partnership with the Billion Oyster Project

Back in 2022, we brought you a story on the first watch Oris released to celebrate their partnership with the Billion Oyster Project. That particular Aquis was a real head turner, using mother of pearl in a unique fashion to create a dial meant to conjure the Hudson River. But the more interesting story then, as it is now as Oris releases the long awaited follow up piece, is the one about the Swiss brand’s interest in conservation, and the mission of the Billion Oyster Project.

If you need a refresher, the Billion Oyster Project exists to restore New York Harbor’s oyster reefs, and to educate the public on the inherent benefits of this endeavor. A fully grown oyster is, somewhat amazingly, able to filter as much as 50 gallons of water per day. Reintroducing oysters (a billion of them!) into New York waterways has the potential to dramatically clean up those waters in a sustainable and natural way. The founders of the Billion Oyster Project, Murray Fisher and Pete Malinowski, say that they’ve already introduced 150 million oysters into the harbor. They started in 2014, so if you do the math, there’s still plenty of work to be done to get to that billion number, but it’s far from an impossible goal. One of the charms of the Billion Oyster Project is that it is by its very nature a group effort – the organization has a lot of help, and enlists public schools, volunteers, and occasionally a Swiss watch brand to lend a hand. Every time they get in the harbor and add more oysters to the cause, they’re educating the public on the importance of restoring oyster reefs.

The Aquis announced today, the New York Harbor Limited Edition II, also plays a role in helping the Billion Oyster Project in achieving its goals. According to Oris, proceeds from sales of the limited edition watch will go directly toward reef building, shell collection, and educational outreach.

The new LE is effectively a colorway update of the one introduced in 2022, but this time features a dial in a bright, aqua green shade. A thin layer of mother of pearl is still the secret weapon here, creating a dial surface with an organic and visually interesting texture and shimmer. The watch is built on the 43.5mm Aquis platform, which is the larger size for the brand’s contemporary dive watch. The case is fitted with a stainless steel bezel insert, and measures 13.1mm tall. As with other watches in the Aquis family, it’s water resistant to 300 meters, and this version runs on a Sellita automatic movement (Oris Calibre 733, with 41 hours of power reserve.

The retail price for the New York Harbor Limited Edition II is $3,000 (that includes both the steel bracelet as well as a rubber strap, color matched to the dial). It’s a limited edition of 2,000 pieces. More information on the Billion Oyster Project can be found here. Oris
