Watches, Stories, and Gear: World Record Gear, a Massive Chocolate Watch and the Re-appearance of Daniel Day-lewis
“Watches, Stories, and Gear” is a roundup of our favorite content, watch or otherwise, from around the internet. Here, we support other creators, explore interesting content that inspires us, and put a spotlight on causes we believe in. Oh, and any gear we happen to be digging on this week. We love gear.
An Ulysse Nardin You Won’t Wear, But Might Eat

Amaury Guichon, AKA “The Chocolate Guy” has gone viral once again. Known for creating hyper-realistic sculptures from chocolate and other materials, Amaury faithfully recreated an Ulysse Nardin Freak One from scratch. The larger than life sculpture appears to be roughly 3 feet tall, with a diameter that would be better measured in feet rather than millimeters. While you’d need an absolutely massive wrist to wear this one, it looks absolutely delicious.
New Shades of Peak Design
For years, Peak Design’s pursuit of timeless products has yielded a classic color palette for our bags and photo gear. Shades of black, tan, and grey have dominated the catalog with occasional limited releases in various colors. While these colors served as a foundation for the brand, Peak Design has made a statement: “ …timeless doesn’t have to mean dark and muted. Timeless can still be bold. And frankly, it’s about time we did that.” In a recent but unexpected color expansion, the team added four new colorways across 75 different product SKUs. These colors, named Ocean (blue), Kelp (green), Ibis (orange), and Eclipse (maroon), span the gamut from capture clips to packing cubes, adding a subtle (or bold) touch of color wherever you want it. Check out the full collection of new and classic colors, here.
A World Record Pack From Matador: The SEG45

As the Pandemic hit and the world began shutting down, Michael Zervos found himself determined to rebuild his sense of purpose. Fresh off losing a major project, Zervos set off to break the world record for the fastest trip to every country. While preparing for this monumental feat, Michael tested out every pack he could get his hands on, knowing that the right backpack would be fundamental in achieving this goal. Ultimately deciding on the SEG45 from Matador, Michael set out on his journey as highlighted in a recent blog post from Matador.
Earlier in May, 499 days after he set out, Michael completed the challenge and was successful in breaking the world record. When asked about the bag he chose, “When you’re traveling straight for 499 days, you need a bag that cannot fail you…The bag’s two key strengths are its packing density and soft shape. Since it has several built-in ‘packing cubes’ in its segments, you can fit a crazy amount of stuff in it.” stated Michael, “The SEG45 just…worked. It’s deceptively simple, but it does a ton. I could organize by climate, region, dirty vs. clean. I was able to compress everything and keep moving. The durability blew me away. I threw it under buses in Africa, carried it through rainforests, and dragged it across tarmac in Southeast Asia. Never failed me.”
Daniel Day-Lewis’ Return To The Big Screen
Following the release of “Phantom Thread” in 2017, acting legend Daniel Day-Lewis announced his retirement, much to the chagrin of fans, that was until last Fall. In Late last October, we mentioned in another Watches, Stories, and Gear post that Day-Lewis “hadn’t abandoned his child” and would be starring in his first feature film. According to a recent Entertainment Weekly post, “Day-Lewis plays a reclusive hermit who reluctantly reunites with his middle-aged brother (Sean Bean) after they encounter one another in the woods of Northern England. The film anatomizes their tense and enigmatic relationship, which is riven by fractures from both small and large violent events that occurred decades before.” The film, titled Anemone, is currently slated to debut at the 2025 New York Film Festival, followed by a limited release on October 3rd and full nationwide release on October 10th.
