Zenith Introduces the Defy Revival A3643 for LVMH Watch Week

Once again, LVMH Watch Week is upon us. For those of us who work in watch media, this week has become something of what you might technically refer to as a “big deal.” It’s the beginning, in earnest, of the new release season, which peaks with Watches & Wonders week, and is now just months away (yikes). Over the past several years, LVMH has carved out this period in late January to debut new novelties ahead of Watches & Wonders (which all of the brands making announcements this week participate in) and get a jump on the competition. Usually the LVMH Watch Week releases are a little more consumer oriented and less ambitious than those that debut at Watches & Wonders a few months down the road, but honestly that just makes this week all the more interesting to us here at Worn & Wound. We’ll have a bunch of news on the latest from TAG Heuer, Hublot, and Bulgari later in the week (as well as hands-on coverage of the new novelties) but we start with Zenith, which has designated LVMH Watch Week 2026 as a Defy centric experience.

There are several new Defy references dropping this week in the Skyline category that range from modest sizing updates to some pretty bonkers watchmaking, but we’ll start with this year’s Revival piece, the A3643. Zenith, in recent years, has done an outstanding job when it comes to raiding their own archives for inspiration, and always offer tasteful reinterpretations of classic references that are pretty much one to one recreations, at least in the ways that matter most.

The A3643 is one of the original references of the Defy released in 1969, and the octagonal case shape is one that Zenith has played with before in recent years, releasing Revival editions of this watch in teal and red dial variations. The A3643 distinguishes itself with a silver dial, which gives the watch a very different look than its louder and more colorful counterparts. This is a much more neutral rendition of the concept of this particular Defy, and might be more widely appealing to the casual collector.

Key details of the original have been maintained in this new edition to a degree that should please vintage aficionados and those new to the world of Zenith. The case, as with prior editions, has been recreated using high-precision scans of the original vintage reference, ensuring a near perfect reproduction of the size and proportions of the 1969 version. That means a modest 37mm case size, but one that is overbuilt and meant to be used as a true sports watch. It’s small but rugged in a way that instills confidence, thanks in large part to the sharp angles and wide facets that define the visual language of the case design. The other key detail here is the recreation of the now iconic applied hour markers associated with this reference, which are of a unique multi-tier design and have a striking depth when viewed from an angle.

The Defy Revival A3643 runs on the Elite 670 movement which has been fitted with an openworked rotor featuring the Zenith star logo. This is the very definition of a workhorse movement and has been a proven though often overlooked part of Zenith’s broader catalog for years. Obviously the brand is most associated with their chronograph calibers (the El Primero made its debut in 1969 as well) but  the Elite series movements are incredibly important for the brand as speculation builds that Zenith will soon start producing them for their LVMH stablemates. The movements are thin, reliable, and offer 50 hours of power reserve and a date function.

The new Defy Revival A3643 has a retail price of $7,800 and is mounted to a ladder bracelet modeled after the original Gay Freres design. For those keeping score, when the Defy Revival A3691 (the red dialed version) was introduced in January 2023, the retail price was $6,800.
