Windup in a Lake 2026: Celebrating Fifty Years of Citizen Eco-Drive Innovation and One Unforgettable Recovery Mission

For the last three years, Citizen¹ has supported what has affectionately become known as Windup in a Lake—a diving event on Lake Michigan coinciding with Windup Watch Fair Chicago. We’ve celebrated Promaster¹ milestones with folk legends, and thrown ’80s-themed aquatic parties for Aqualand. But this year marked the 50th anniversary of Citizen Eco-Drive¹ innovation.

To celebrate Citizen’s Eco-Drive technology, a sophisticated movement capable of powering a watch from any light source, we stripped the theme down to its core: Light. Armed with OrcaTorch’s dive lights and armless Ombraz sunglasses to combat the surface glare, the objective was simple. Take Citizen light-powered watches into the dark.
